Golden Spike Press is a collaborative publishing project founded and based in Valencia, California, at California Institute of the Arts, specializing in artists’ books and multiples produced on a Risograph. The textural quality of the Riso is used to striking effect in these publications, many of which deal with photography and drawing both original and found. The processing of a photograph brings out an added tactility in the flowers of Jason Roberts Dobrin’s “Jade Blooming At Night” and in the velvet of Joni Noe’s “Velvet”; in “Z2,” the printing process gives a gritty, bleak sheen to urban snapshots and iPhone screen captures alike.
